My name is Danny Coleman. I am a veteran musician and currently the host of an air/web based radio program entitled ROCK ON RADIO; which airs Sunday evenings at 10pm EST on
www.wifi1460am.com and AM radio 1460. On my program I interview bands, solo artists, and entertainers in a loose "get to know you" type of format,
play any CD(s) that they bring along, as well as allow them to play live in studio if they so desire. The goal of the program is to give my guests yet another venue to showcase their talents.
Last night's show was a departure from my normal format. My guest was Mercer County New Jersey Sheriff's Officer Sean Lavin. Officer Lavin is the chairman of an organization called OFFICER
DOWN NJ. This charitable organization provides financial aide to members of law enforcement and their families; where the officer has either given their life or been permanently disabled.
Officer Lavin was discussing the upcoming outdoor fundraiser/concert SUMMERSTOCK'09, which is held annually at KATMANDU bar and restaurant along the banks of the Delaware River
in Trenton, NJ. This all-day event, which features ten bands from all over NJ who are donating their time and talents to this worthwhile cause, kicks off at twelve noon with local band
W.C. SOULSHINE.
There is something for everybody at this affair. There are rock bands, metal bands, country acts, bagpipers, food, beverages, and door prizes. In years past there has even been a bachelor auction. Officer
Lavin, although informative, was keeping this year's surprises close to his (bullet proof) vest. Instead, encouraging people to come out and see for themselves, what a wonderful day for an incredible charity
this is.
Tickets may be obtained for ten dollars in advance by going to www.officerdownnj.org or for fifteen dollars the day of the event.
KATMANDU is located on Route 29 in Trenton, NJ, in the same complex as Waterfront Park; home of the N.Y. Yankees AA affiliate Trenton Thunder.
Next week, my program is back to normal. I'll be featuring a band from Lakewood, NJ, STOLEN RHODES (www.myspace.com/stolenrhodes).
They will be discussing their recently-released EP, "From The Dark Side of 88". I'll be playing cuts from this CD, taking phone calls at (609) 447-0236 and e-mails at
rockonradio1460@hotmail.com while live on air.
So turn on Sunday night at 10pm EST. Tune into www.wifi1460am.com and ... as always ... ROCK ON!
