My guest this past Sunday on ROCK ON RADIO was Philadelphia, PA-area artist DAVID ZEE of THE DAVID ZEE BAND.
David, a medical professional by day (he is a doctor of osteopathic medicine), and a self-professed rocker by night, has had a life-long love affair with music. Beginning at the age of ten by taking
up the guitar, he also plays the drums, dabbles on keyboards, and has received formal vocal training. His desire to play music even caused him to put his academic career on hold; at one point taking a break
from Temple University and working odd jobs as everything from a donut maker to a handy man to further his musical development.
Building on this life experience by playing in local clubs and perfecting his songwriting abilities, Zee began to see exactly just how much of a connection there is between the human psyche and music.
He noticed how music "interacts with our sense of well being" and affects everything from our attitudes to our healing capabilities.
Zee uses this connection while tending to his current medical practice. Zee states: "Medicine is wonderful. But music touches people at a deeper level of soul. Music keeps their bodies moving through
good times and bad." The meaning of this being that no matter what the events surrounding one's life music is the one constant that can evoke emotions, memories, smiles and tears. Music can be calming,
soothing, or uplifting and, despite any differences with one another on a favorite style or type, one can never be wrong.
David Zee incorporates all of these theories into his songwriting. With influences that range from Loggins and Messina to Billy Joel and James Taylor, as well as distinctive jazz/Latin overtones, Zee
packs a truly unique blend of these styles into his tunes.
Zee currently uses a four-piece band ensemble for his live performances. However, in the past he has utilized many other musicians on stage. If you're planning on seeing The David Zee Band live, you
can never be sure which configuration you'll find upon arrival. Zee sometimes uses back-up vocalists, conga players, percussionists, and additional guitarists. Throw in some crowd participation, and it
makes for a very entertaining evening.
David Zee is currently getting set to release his second CD. This CD, which is still untitled, features tracks that are new, or left off of his debut CD, INNER PEACE. Zee even has plans of deviating
from the norm by possibly including a cover song on this effort. It should be noted that Zee donates a portion of the profits from his CD sales to the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY as well as the AMERICAN DIABETES
ASSOCIATION. His new CD is due to be released in December. INNER PEACE is currently available for purchase at Tower Records, iTunes, and Amazon.com.
Look for THE DAVID ZEE BAND throughout the tri-state area. Zee spoke of recent contacts that he's made from New York to Delaware and beyond so they may be playing somewhere near you soon. Check out them
out at www.myspace.com/davidzeeband.
This Sunday 9/13, my guest is Jersey Shore-area artist LAURA CRISCI. This stunning, talented musician will be discussing her time spent in Nashville, TN, here in NJ, past and present gigs, as well as
her upcoming CD release party scheduled for December.
Turn on at 10pm EST. Tune into www.wifi1460am.com and, as always... ROCK ON!
