My guest on the latest installment of ROCK ON RADIO was Jersey Shore-area artist LAURA CRISCI (www.lauracrisci.com). This stunning, incredibly
talented songstress, who confesses that she has "no concept of time" because she "lives in the moment," was a pleasure to interview.
Crisci started her musical career while working in a local music store. Here she learned how to play, as well as teach guitar and harmonica, among other instruments. Choosing to stick with the guitar
as the mainstay of her music, Crisci launched a musical career that has taken her from New Jersey to Nashville, TN and back home to the Jersey Shore.
Along the way, she has kept company with some of the Garden State's best musicians. Crisci spoke fondly of time spent sharing the stage with E Street Band member Danny Federici, as well as Bon Jovi alumni
Tico Torres, as being one of the highlights of her career. She went on to elaborate about the time this line-up, known as The Stone Hill Band, performed in front of a crowd of eight thousand people at a
hot air balloon festival. Sadly, weather cancelled their second performance, there was trouble with a promoter, and the band never played together again.
It was at this moment that her career headed south, literally. Laura packed up and headed down to Nashville where she continued to play and make contacts in the music business. While there, she married,
had two children, and wound up taking a hiatus from music. Fifteen years, two kids, and a wealth of knowledge later, she returned to New Jersey. Once back home, Laura resurrected her musical career; even
joking how her children had been totally unaware that "Mom had talent."
Crisci has a four-song EP that she says "will soon be out of print" due to the fact that she is putting the finishing touches on her first complete CD. This yet-to-be-titled, twelve-song effort, with
a possible bonus track, is a unique blend of instrumentation surpassed only by Laura's strong vocal stylings.
Each song is delivered in a way that leaves one wanting more. I find her voice to be powerful, yet soft, and at times mesmerizing. The CD is in its final stages, needing just a title and some minor tweaking.
There is a December release date set with a CD release party scheduled in Asbury Park, NJ around the same time.
I'd love to tell you where to see Laura Crisci but she's tough to pin down. Laura claims to "fly by the seat of her pants at times" and is never quite sure exactly where she'll be next. Referring to
a practice that she has termed "musical sniping," she may pop up anywhere at any time and use her vast network of musical contacts to jam with whoever she pleases.
So look for LAURA CRISCI. She may be coming to a show near you. Re-airs of my interview with Laura Crisci will occur on Tues. 9/15 at 11pm EST and Wed. 9/16 at 6pm EST on
www.wifi1460am.com.
Coming this Sunday, 9/20, my guest is long-time friend and a ROCK ON RADIO first, comedian JOE BUB! Joe has shared the stage with the likes of Ray Romano among many others.
Turn on at 10pm EST. Tune into www.wifi1460am.com and, as always... ROCK ON!
