East Windsor, NJ singer/songwriter KIM YARSON graced the ROCK ON RADIO studios this past Sunday evening. This rockin' country/pop artist is full of pep, desire and determination to have it all!
However, to understand KIM YARSON one must look deeper into oneself. This very talented artist, after much soul searching and "self reflection," has set herself on a path to do what she feels "God intended
for me to do."
Approximately fifteen years ago, she began a quest for musical knowledge. You see, Yarson always thought that she could write songs; she just felt that she needed to gain some insight and to draw on
the expertise of others. So, in 1994, she began attending a series of songwriting seminars, "song camps" as they're called, to try and improve her ability. There she met Barbara Haley and Al Lind. The three
struck up a working relationship that has been built into a lasting friendship to this day. The trio worked on numerous projects, writing songs for themselves as well as others. It was at the urging of
these friends/mentors that Kim began to write music for herself.
Many years, and many trips to and from Nashville later, Yarson was entrenched in a settled lifestyle. She was attending school, had a husband, and two young sons. Her love of songwriting had never abated
and one day she had a revelation: this was what she "needed" to be doing, her music as a full-time thing. After discussing it with her husband, she put school "on hold" and began work in 2008 on her first
recording project. That project would eventually be turned into her first full-length CD entitled "SATISFIED." This ten-song effort features upbeat tunes that are very reflective of the album's title.
"SATISFIED" isn't just the CDs title, it is exactly how Yarson feels. Feeling fortunate to have been "blessed" by so many supportive and fantastic people, she feels that she's heading in the proper direction
with her life as well as her musical career.
Yarson has taken her show on the road to many unique venues. She has done this by creating her own "Songwriters In The Round" concert series. In this concert series she travels from town to town, performing
in libraries and coffee houses along with one or two other songwriters. On stage, they alternate between one another for an awesome musical effect of changing styles, vocal, and writing ability. This type
of showcase event is also very family friendly. The majority of these shows begin early enough, so you can bring the kids out on a school night to enjoy the stories that go along with each number.
Yarson isn't stopping there, though. Currently, she has plans to return to the studio to record yet another CD which she hopes to have released before the end of 2010.
Check out KIM YARSON at www.kimyarson.com or at www.myspace.com/kimyarson. She has
songs posted, some of which are on "SATISFIED" and some which are not. My personal favorite is "Then He Laughs." This song strikes a chord for me in particular because I have teenaged children. Unfortunately,
it's not on her current CD. It is on her Myspace site, however. Here you have my favorite song. I can honestly say that it's not easy to choose just one. Go ahead, I dare you to try. Good luck!
This Sunday ROCK ON RADIO shall expand to two hours for just this week beginning at 10pm EST. This is the first ever, and hopefully annual, ROCK ON RADIO Christmas Special. My guest is Bucks County,
PA singer/songwriter LISA JONES (www.myspace.com/lisajones1313). There will be my usual hour-long show, followed by another hour of interviews
and Christmas songs that have been submitted to me by various artists.
Turn on at 10pm EST. Tune into www.wifi1460am.com and, as always, ROCK ON!
