MIMI FUSCO was my most recent guest on ROCK ON RADIO. This Ewing, NJ native has just recently returned from living in Los Angeles for the past six years.
Mimi began playing guitar and writing songs while in high school. After high school she attended college in Philadelphia, PA. However, her desire to pursue her musical career began to overtake her desire
for higher education, confessing to us that she began to "lock herself in her room and play her guitar." Finally, she hit a crossroad and, after a conversation with the Dean of her school, she decided to
abandon school and dive headlong into her music.
After gaining much exposure in the Philly music scene, Fusco received what she thought was a huge opportunity: a record contract and the chance to move out to L.A. Unfortunately, after uprooting her
life here on the east coast, the deal fell through once arriving in California.
Undeterred by this, Fusco continued to push forward with her music and her dreams. She told us of how she had to pretend to be her own agent just to get club owners and industry people to talk to her.
Fortunately for her, her persistence paid off. The Viper Room, The Roxy, and many other notable L.A. rock scenes have had the good fortune of Mimi Fusco gracing their stages. There was even an offer of
a major role in a motion picture. This she turned down as it required her to do a nude scene. Instead she took a minor role in the film, titled ZEROPHYLLIA, where she can briefly be seen in a bar scene
as well as heard on the movie soundtrack. There are several Mimi Fusco songs in the movie. The film was shot in Oregon and is currently being aired on cable channels.
As she tries to re-establish herself here on the east coast, Mimi Fusco is currently working with long-time friend and guitarist Rob Silvers (El Kabong) in a duo called ROBMI. There is also an aggressive
gig schedule that's being finalized for 2010. If you wish to keep up with MIMI, you can do so at www.myspace.com/mimifuscorocks.
I must say, MIMI FUSCO is definitely a "must see" artist. Her edgy style, along with her straight forward lyrics make her a raw talent that's very worthy of checking out!
This Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, we kick off the new year with Trenton, NJ-area singer/songwriter KEITH MONACCHIO. This former front man of "The Semi-beings" and "The Commons" has been a staple in the New
Jersey music scene for years. We'll be discussing his upcoming February CD release as well as all things MONACCHIO.
ROCK ON RADIO is also now live on three stations at 10pm EST every Sunday. Besides our home of www.wifi1460am.com, we are now also on
www.hamiltonradio.net as well as www.starfmradio.net.
Turn on, tune in, and ROCK ON!
