It's been some time, both for writing something to you, the readers of
Chorus and Verse Magazine, and for getting into the flow of doing gigs on
the home front. I just got home after a night of jaunting around but, really,
I am getting home after a great little show I played at a cool little club
on Houston Street called the National Underground.
A couple days ago, Jersey Shore transplant, singer/songwriter and music
biz entrepreneur Andrea Setaro helped me get my feet moving again away from
just the random jam session at four in the morning on Bleecker Street and
refocused on productive gigging in this town. She called me the other day
looking for me to fill in a slot she had open tonight and, knowing the reputation
she's got, I excitedly said yes.
Not much to write about to some people, but when you live in this town
and you are working in this business long enough, you can lose focus. Since
I said yes to her, I got asked to return to the National Underground a second
night, for another fill-in for Friday Night, same time, same place, and
I think I'll even bring Greg on fiddle again and Archie on guitar. I also
picked up something next week at Caffe Vivaldi over in the West Village,
a pretty cool little all-ages showcase spot that I hosted a show at for
this past NYE.
It's great because after losing focus for so long, working on other people's
projects, or just doing the non-performing jobs like management or promotion,
it feels good to get my head back in the game, planning for the live experience,
arranging, re-writing, plotting and planning. It feels good.
That's it for now, I guess, although if you don't mind some harmless
plugs, the two-man poetry show "OFFSEASON-Winter Words From the Jersey Shore"
is back at the Showroom in Asbury Park on February 12th and a set at Caffe
Vivaldi with Erin Sax Seymour and the "Hands Off My Sister" Band on February
13th will kick off at 9:30pm for no cover.
