KENDAL CONRAD is an eighteen-year-old high school senior from Pottstown, PA. Simply put,
her talent is limitless and, this past Sunday, I had the pleasure of interviewing her live on
ROCK ON RADIO.
Getting involved with music at the very young age of six, CONRAD started out by enjoying
her time singing in her school chorus. Inspired by her school music/vocal director to seek additional
training, she took the advice and began singing in earnest.
Entering many local talent contests and local competitions, the awards and accolades began
to accumulate quickly. One of her first was having the honor of being crowned "Miss Pennsylvania
Teen Talent." This was followed by successes such as winning the local "Pottstown Idol" as well
as "Lehigh Valley Idol" competitions.
One of CONRAD's biggest thrills, and the one which has opened many doors for this young singer/songwriter,
was winning the "Miss Pennsylvania Teen Talent," as she competed in this event while wearing
an actual stage-worn gown which belonged to one of her idols and influences, Whitney Houston.
Once this was on her resume, a flood of opportunities opened up.
Currently, she is the vocalist who sings The National Anthem prior to the Reading Phillies,
as well as the Scranton-Wilkes-Barre Iron Pigs (both minor league affiliates of the Philadelphia
Phillies), home baseball games.
CONRAD has been asked to sing at the United Nations, has also done a vocal solo with the
gospel choir at St. John's Church in New York City and, most recently, played her guitar and
sang at the 2009 White House Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
This Thursday, April 1st, she'll be back in Washington, D.C. performing at the National Cherry
Blossom Festival and this summer she will be performing at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA.
Now, all of this sounds great, however, consider this... she has only been playing guitar
for two years, and just wrote her first song six months ago! All amazing accomplishments given
her age and experience.
"Songwriting comes easy to me," she said as she was telling us how she approaches her craft.
A prolific writer, she pens most lyrics to her songs in less than fifteen minutes.
On her resume she also has written two books. Writing is a passion for this young lady. Once
quoted as saying "I'd rather spend the night with my acoustic guitar, rather than an actual
human being," she loves to write just this much.
As a show host/interviewer, I'll be the first to admit that you have to word your questions
and comments carefully. This especially so when dealing with younger artists. In the case of
KENDAL CONRAD, she handled herself like a veteran. It's very obvious that she's experienced
way beyond her years and her self-titled EP proves this.
This effort is available by going to her Myspace page (www.myspace.com/kendalconrad)
and sending her a message. In addition, all of her upcoming gigs and information are listed
there as well.
A very pleasant interview, I truly believe that we've only just begun to hear from KENDAL
CONRAD. Check her out. You won't be disappointed.
