Last Sunday, my scheduled guest backed out on me only four hours prior to my show. Fortunately
for me, I know the wonderful Miss KELLY CARVIN.
CARVIN, a resident of Yardville, NJ, and an amazingly talented singer/songwriter, filled
in quite magnificently in a pinch and on very short notice to boot. Even though she was a recent
past guest of ROCK ON RADIO, an interview with her is always a pleasure.
The last time CARVIN came into the studio she brought her drummer and bassist with her. This
time she was solo. Always an engaging personality, as well as very direct and to the point,
KELLY CARVIN never disappoints.
For those of you who aren't familiar with CARVIN and/or her music, you should make an effort
to become so. This attractive young songwriter, with the "sensually edgy" vocal style, is capable
of administering goose bumps with her talent. I personally can attest to this, as I fell victim
during her live on air performance of the song "Fire."
The last time that she was in the ROCK ON RADIO studios, her and her band mates were in the
process of entering the recording studio, an undertaking that is still a work in progress.
"Calling You Out," a track that CARVIN is in the process of laying down now, is the proposed
first single off of this still-untitled CD. This song made its radio debut as she played it
live on air for the listening audience.
Fortunately for me, I was able to see her perform this same tune live at a local open mic,
which she attends on a somewhat regular basis. Seeing KELLY CARVIN live is a treat in itself,
mostly because she can take you on a roller coaster ride of musical emotions as her voice seemingly
reaches deep into your soul and can be at times mesmerizing, yet soulful and down right gutsy.
Evidence of this can be found in songs like "Fire," where the music and lyrics ooze of raw
energy accompanied by a fantastic vocal range, or "Still Alive," where CARVIN sings in soft
angelic tones, yet manages to deliver the tune with an edgy "HEY! Listen to me, I'm talking
to you" kind of style.
While on air, CARVIN received many, many, compliments and requests for everything from tour
dates to whether or not she was a single woman. Tour dates were easy; she'll be performing at
THE CELLAR on Rte. 130 on Tuesday nights in Yardville, NJ as well as an upcoming show at The
Brass lantern in Reading, PA, and even at an event called "The Tree Huggers Ball" in West Virginia
Hopefully, her still untitled CD will be finished and done soon. But, for now, if you are
interested in finding out more about this very talented singer/songwriter, please go to
www.kellycarvin.com. From this site,
all of her links are available.
Once again, I can't thank her enough for filling in on such short notice. It was truly a
pleasure to interview her once again.
This Sunday, May 16, I am VERY excited to have CC COLETTI (MEATLOAF), ANTHONY KRIZAN (SPIN
DOCTORS, NOEL REDDING), and T.J. JABLONSKI as my guest on ROCK ON RADIO. They'll be discussing
their recent tribute show "Experience Janis" as well COLETTI's solo album "Woodstock Lane."
Turn on at 10pm EST... tune into www.wifi1460am.com...
and ROCK ON!
