MARY SCHOLZ is a singer/songwriter from the Philadelphia area. This young indie/folk artist with an angelic voice has two EPs under her belt and is currently working towards a third.
Originally a native of Havertown, PA, SCHOLZ currently resides in Philadelphia. Growing up in the suburbs in a musical family, her mother played the piano, her father the guitar, and SCHOLZ began singing at the age of four. Later, she began to take piano lessons at home, then eventually the guitar. While attending high school, she was also a flautist in the school marching band. SCHOLZ jokingly told a story on air about how her, her parents, and her siblings used to receive many "Partridge Family" jokes/references due to that fact that they could all be found providing music for their church congregation almost every weekend.
After high school, she went on to graduate college from the University of the Arts in
Philadelphia. While there, she majored in musical theater. SCHOLZ became involved with acting by
doing plays and independent films. Most recently she had a role in the film "The Matter With Clark."
Never forgetting her musical roots, she continued to play and perform and has produced two EPs.
Her first, "Philadelphia Nights," was released in 2007. The second, and most recent, "The Beauty Of
It All," was released in October of 2008. Together, these EPs showcase her gentle, beautiful vocal
ability. Singing in church growing up, this blogger can't help but wonder if she was ever mistaken
for an angel. SCHOLZ has a soft, yet very crisp, vocal range unlike any that I've ever heard.
Reminiscent of Carole King, she delivers her music with a vibrant innocence that draws one in and
holds a listener almost hostage in a melodic trance. Live in studio she performed a duet with her
sister Hilary that featured fantastic harmonies called "Love Me Still."
A semi-regular performer in the Philadelphia/NJ music scene, SCHOLZ picks and chooses gigs at her
leisure. Her music and current acting commitments are keeping her busy as she attempts to carve out
her career in either one or both.
MARY SCHOLZ's music is available on all of the usual outlets, CD Baby, iTunes, and Napster, to
name a few. However, to find out more about MARY SCHOLZ, please visit her web site at
