This past Sunday, my guests on ROCK ON RADIO were the Trenton, NJ acoustic duo 15 KEYS. These
indie rockers have been playing together on and off for approximately ten years.
15 KEYS is comprised of JAMIE MASTROMARINO on guitar, backing vocals, and banjo and MARK BUTTICH
on lead guitar, lead vocals, and bass guitar. These two gentlemen met as teens while playing
baseball in a local Lou Gehrig Baseball League. Remaining friends even though they attended separate
schools, upon their graduations they wound up going to the same college. Here, they began playing
music together as well as writing some original material.
Utilizing some downtime in their lives, 15 KEYS made the decision to write and record. This plan
came to be in the form of their first CD, a live offering titled "Blue Light Sessions." This
seventeen-track disc was recorded in front of a live audience at Blue Light Recording Studios in
southern New Jersey. The duo wanted as "live" a sound as possible for their first effort, feeling
that this would accurately capture the essence that is 15 KEYS. Inviting twenty of their closest
friends and fans, they invaded the studio and did what they do best - play!
15 KEYS can be found playing all over parts of the Delaware Valley and beyond. On air they talked
of a fairly recent road trip to Austin, Texas where they took part performing in the Tenth Annual
Texas Rockfest at the Mugshots Bar. Utilizing the same downtime that afforded them the ability to
record "Blue Light Sessions," they loaded up the car and made the entire trip happen in just four
short days. 15 KEYS have also performed in Burlington, Vermont, and Brooklyn, NY as well as numerous
establishments all over eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Currently they have a full gig
schedule, which can be found at
www.myspace.com/15keys.
I've had the pleasure of seeing these fine musicians on multiple occasions. On air, just like on
stage, they are very engaging, approachable, and just all-around good guys. These traits come
through in their personalities as well as their songs. Their willingness to chat with their audience
allows one to relax and enjoy their music; almost as if they were playing in your very own living
room.
So, if you can, check out 15 Keys soon. They play at just about any establishment; coffee houses,
bars, restaurants, and wherever they are welcome, "at least once."
This Sunday, August 8, at 10pm EST, my guest will be sensational teenage artist LEAH LeGRACE from
Stockton, NJ. This young performer has a recently released self-titled EP and has many things to
discuss. LEAH LeGRACE can be found at
www.myspace.com/leahlegrace.
Turn on... Tune in... and ROCK ON!
