On Saturday, April 21, 2012, art629 Gallery, www.art629.com, located at 629 Cookman Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ, will host an opening party featuring the paintings and prints by Shepard Fairey and Patrick Schiavino.
Also on this night, The Arts Coalition of Asbury Park (ArtsCAP) is launching ArtsNight, a monthly sampling of Asbury Park's collective arts scene. This will be a monthly event that will run from April through June of 2012. Beginning on April 21st from 7pm-10pm, ArtsNight is a series of three monthly arts openings and events in downtown Asbury Park. The first ArtsNight will include live performances in music and the spoken word. The evening will end with drinks and complementary appetizers provided by the Press Room (Bangs Avenue).
The exhibit, titled "Occupy Asbury Park" at art629, will showcase work of the two artists pertaining to having a voice in today's society. Fairey's work attempts to stimulate curiosity and bring people to question their relationship with their surroundings through public art, where Schiavino's work is much more direct, as he depicts and creates images of some of the ominous threats to the Earth's survival as it is accosted by the megacorporation's controlling the World's economy.
The time of the opening is 7PM to 10PM, and the exhibit will be open to the public now through Sunday, April 29th.
