The Strange Familiar announce the release of the new music video for "Unwanted," the second single off their debut album, Chasing Shadows (Krian Music Group/Fontana.) Directed by Erin Brown, the indie pop band headed back to their home state of Ohio to film the dark and edgy night scenes as well as the lighter outdoor performance shots.
Written by Kira Leyden (vocals/piano) and Jeff Andrea (guitar), "Unwanted," which was featured on a recent episode of ABC Family's teen drama, Pretty Little Liars, is one of the most poignant songs on the album. Donning a purple wig and gothic makeup, Leyden portrays a dark character running away from her problems and enticing others to come with her - "If I throw away all the garbage in my life / Happiness will come to me / If I throw away every problem / Every pain will be undone."
With Leyden's expressive piano melody and stirring vocals, "Unwanted" is a powerful and emotional track portraying the desire to shed unwelcome toxins, whether an inanimate object, a person or a feeling. The song and video, much like the rest of Chasing Shadows, shows off the band's ability to write timeless music that tells a story through its sound and visual imagery; it connects with their audience on a deep emotional level.
In addition to "Unwanted" being featured on Pretty Little Liars, The Strange Familiar can also be heard on CW's The Vampire Diaries, ABC Family's The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Jane by Design and Switched at Birth, ABC's Brothers and Sisters, NBC's The Biggest Loser, Teen Nick's Degrassi, and the Lifetime Movie Network's The 19th Wife.
